Congress finally got one right, and IIAG worked to make sure our members can benefit! At the end of 2015, a little-known provision was inserted into an omnibus transportation funding bill that reduced a burdensome provision in the federal Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA). Thanks to the work of the Big "I" an amendment was passed and signed into law that eliminates the requirement for insurance agencies to provide annual notices to all of their customers regarding their privacy policy provided that: (a) The agency provides nonpublic personal information to non-affiliated third parties in accordance with state and federal regulations; and (b) The agency has not changed its policies and practices regarding the disclosure of nonpublic personal information of their clients.
